Superior Institute is currently seeking qualified individuals to serve as Trip Leaders for their Summer Expeditions Program. Trip Leaders spend their summer guiding 2-week long backpacking, sea kayaking, or canoeing expeditions with teenagers 13-19. All expeditions take place in the following course areas: Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, Isle Royale National Park, the Superior Hiking Trail, the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, Lake Superior Provincial Park, and Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.

All expeditions with Superior Institute emphasize self-esteem, group building, conservation, and natural history. Working cooperatively with a co-leader, Trip Leaders provide 24-hr. supervision for all program participants and assist teens in all aspects of the expedition experience, including cooking and clean-up or equipment. Leaders teach participants the fundamentals of sea kayaking, backpacking, and canoeing, in addition to leading educational sessions in North Woods ecology, geology, land management, and wilderness ethics. Furthermore, Trip Leaders are responsible for transporting program participants to and from sites, as well as managing the allocated expedition budget. At the end of each expedition, Leaders are required to assist with preparation for the next session, as well as write written evaluations of each program participant and co-leader.
